A Walk in the Clouds

Cottage Gardening

the blog:
God’s Garden

The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth,–
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

I took a walk in the clouds this morning. We have had some blessed rain these past few days – and there’s a light misty rain remaining this morning – the veil of the fog is beginning to lift as the sun rises causing everything to glisten – newly washed.

A couple of weeks back I dreamed of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s secret garden – wishing and loving the notion of a well-loved garden spot filled with flora, fauna and the joy of human laughter.

I watched this bee for quite a while as he hungrily delved into the depths of the Morning Glory – you can see
his tracks on the petal of the flower. He would leave the flower for a moment – land on the basket – clean
himself and return getting all that good pollen

This week I have been thinking of and dreaming of the first Garden.

You are probably familiar with a couple of the lines in the above poem as they have been set in garden signs over the years.

The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth,–
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

there he is again – off to get all he can get from the daylilies

Had you ever read the whole of the poem – it deeply touched my heart.

God’s Garden

The Lord God planted a garden
In the fit white days of the world,
And He set there an angel warden
In a garment of light enfurled.
So near to the peace of Heaven, That the hawk might nest with the wren, For there in the cool of the even God walked with the first of men.

And I dream that these garden-closes With their shade and their sun-flecked sod And their lilies and bowers of roses, Were laid by the hand of God.
The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth,–
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
For He broke it for us in a garden
Under the olive-trees
Where the angel of strength was the warden
And the soul of the world found ease.

this baby Mockingbird visits me every morning on my front porch
Dora the Explorer is not a morning kitty….she just doesn’t understand me being more
interested in the flowers, birds and bees than in her
There was a wonderful sense of peace, love and beauty in that Garden – I can just imagine the vistas of color, the animals living side by side…

We can take from the blossoms in our gardens and make our own Edens – exult in the beauty of a single rose, peony, petunia, daylily or morning glory.

these Swamp Hibiscus are beautiful – but terribly invasive –

the spring front door flowers will just have to stay for a while – a mommy Wren
has her little nest with three little brown eggs deep within this door pocket.

Each flower, each plant, each bird or animal was
especially created for our enjoyment.
The beauty of God’s creation has inspired the heart and souls of
many over the years in verse and in song –
