The Harvest Moon
will rise tonight – it is the full moon
that rises closest to the autumnal equinox which
occurred on September 22. The moon has been
growing larger each night and on the night
of September 29 and on the 30th the full
harvest moon will shine.
The full moon will hit it’s crest after 11 pm. EST.
It is said that this moon will shine large and bright
for several days and the farther north you are
the Harvest moon will shine from dusk till dawn.
Because of the ecliptical angle of the moon’s orbital
path at this time of the year, the moon will seem to
rise more often and earlier – around this time every
full moon will rise around sunset.

I think of the Harvest Moon and a quote – or ending note –
in one of our favorite movies, The Kid.
Little Rusty asks Big Rusty why the moon sometimes is or
ange. Big Rusty could not answer and had his secretary to
look it up. This is the quote shared at the end of the movie,
‘The full moon sometimes looks orange when it rises because the light has to travel through more of the atmosphere when the moon is high in the sky. The blue light waves scatter, but the red light waves make it through.’

to interesting questions.
I thoroughly enjoy each month’s full moon –
