Pink Pistachio Heart Wreath

Cottage Craft, Featured

the blog:

Pink Pistachio Heart Silver Tray2My husband LOVES Pistachios – they’re his favorite snack. So, over time, I have accumulated quite a number of the shells. You know, we always look at things and think, ‘I can make something out of this/these’. My inspiration came from an old Martha Stewart Living Magazine where she used whole, dyed red Pistachios to make a heart wreath. It was vibrant red – do you remember the time or have you seen dyed Pistachios. Well, Now that we don’t have to import all our Pistachios – their shells are not damaged and for the most part, they are no longer dyed.

Pink Pistachio Heart Silver Tray5I began by tracing a heart shape out of paper – making a template. I then traced the heart shape onto a piece of cardboard. I began at the center top and began to apply the shells with E6000 glue. You can use a glue gun, if you prefer.

The shells were applied in an almost herringbone pattern – with just a few more at the top center and at the bottom center.

Pink Pistachio Silver Tray6In Martha Stewart’s Pistachio Heart Wreath she filled in the gaps with pink peppercorns. I didn’t have any, so I used Wilton Sugar Pearl Sprinkles – I used these in making my Gingerbread House during Christmas. They filled in nicely. Then I spray-painted the whole heart Krylon Ballerina Slipper Pink.

After the paint and glue completely dried I applied more Sugar Pearls with dabs of E6000 round the Pistachio Heart to give it a bit of a color contrast. I attached at the top corner of the heart a sweet little heart I bought at my friend Maria’s Store. Lastly, to add some sparkle, I sprayed glue over the whole wreath and sprinkled lightly Mica Glitter flakes.  At the top I hung the wreath on this large vintage, tarnished silver tray I found at a recent Estate Sale for only $1! Some of the stains on the tray are from Pecans picked from the garden that were wet. I am so glad I went with pink instead of red – to me it seems soft and romantic.
