A Whimsical Evening Tea
Wild Violets, Clover and Rhyme
It was wonderful to be outdoors with some extra daylight hours. The temperature was just perfect, pleasant in the late afternoon. I was playing with our son’s dog – which we temporarily keep – and began to pick wild violets.
I love to see their sweet, happy faces peeping through my husband’s lawn – he doesn’t care for them so much.
As I was walking round the bottom edge of the lawn I noticed some glass sticking up from where rain had run off some soil. Usually I find broken pieces of shard, old metal pieces etc…this time I found a bottle in tact. This is the second one I’ve found in our yard. The house next door had been owned by a doctor who treated Civil War soldiers in and around the home. It is not uncommon to find evidence of this in our backyards.
I have some Martha Stewart dishes that have wild violets strewn throughout – I thought they would look sweet alongside my little violets. I noticed as I was taking the pictures that it was the perfect time to capture that whimsical time – the Blue Hour
As I was returning to the house I picked a handfull of Oxalis – which is so clover-like – to put in the little bottle.
Now, here are some quotes and rhymes from one of my favorite authors – Dr. Seuss – his birthday is in March and many celebrate by participating in Read across America
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
― Dr. Seuss, Happy Birthday to You!
“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
“To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world.”
“It is better to know how to learn than to know.”

Lovely post Kathy. I love violets…but my our neighbor told my husband they were weeds and he poisoned them. I didn’t know until they didn’t come up this year. I was so sad! A different perspective indeed…just like what we call weeds in people, Christ sees differently…. Love the china and the quotes. As a retired kindegarten teacher, Dr Suess has always been a favorite. How fun that you find historic artifacts! We on the west coast are too young for that…sigh…

Kathy,
This is such a beautiful post – and what a neat way to tie in Dr. Suess’ birthday – such wit and wisdom he shared. Lovely china and I think it is so neat you find old bottles and such in your yard- so rich in history there!
Thank you for hosting! Have a wonderful week.
Linking with your neat party today.
Thanks for hosting.
Lovely post. And I so love the quote about being the world to someone. It is most fitting. Thanks for hosting.

Thank you for hosting and having me with a TEA TABLE for St. Pat’s..it is not a dinner table, many think, lol..Have a great St. Pat’s week.

Hi Kathy,
Your cups are so adorable! The snow is slowing melting around the Island and it’s beginning to feel like springtime; my favourite season. No posies just yet though. I really enjoyed your quotes. Thanks for sharing and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Blessings,
Sandi
What a lovely post Kathy. The little violets are perfect for your pretty china cups. I think that’s exciting to find such treasures in your yard. I have found pottery shards in one corner which was probably a garbage heap a hundred years ago. It’s where my flower bed is so I never know what I might find when digging there. Have a great week! blessings, Pamela
Your violets are very pretty. Love Dr. Suess. Thank you for hosting and for joining me at Home Sweet Home!
Sherry
Interesting about the bottle you found Kathy and nice that you repurposed it. The violets are sweet and I’m looking forward to mine in the garden.
Cute quotes.

Hi Kathy, How exciting about finding treasures in your yard! I find nails with some frequency, and rocks! Once I found a silver spoon ring. That was a very cool find. Kathy, your images are really stunning today!
