Anchor Hocking Storage Jar
I have shared this corner of my kitchen several times – showing the changes in decor throughout the seasons and holidays – this is one thing I always remove while taking pictures – that is before I painted it.
It was one of those ‘aha!’ moments. I didn’t think a large jar full of granola bars, crackers and cookies would look ‘cute’ in the scheme of the shelf top decor – but that is where it lives – for utility sake.
Usually you’ll see the far end of the shelf – where the cute, decorative things live and change seasonally. I love this combination of the tray, wine bottle holder, the chicken cookie jar and my new/old scale – love the combination of vintage and french graphics.
Overall, this is one of my favorite corners in our home to decorate – yet, I would always remove the Anchor Hocking jar from the shelf before taking the pictures – now, I am happy to give it center stage. The ‘aha’ moment was the thought, “I should make this Milk Glass!” I spray painted in Bright White four or five layers to give it a good coverage and a deep opaque look.
Then, I visited our dear friend, The Graphics Fairy – I first searched for French Pastry labels. The center of the label ‘Bee Patisserie’ is what I found. I wanted a border, so I used her ‘vintage bracket’. I created an image out of four – resizing the image then flipping the bracket to form four sides and adding them into one image on Pixlr. I then added the ‘Bee Patisserie’ label to complete my label.
I attached my new label, with Mod Podge than once all was dry I sprayed clear Poly over the whole jar to protect the paint and the label. Now, my plain Atlas – once set aside – is a focal point.

What a great transformation! I totally love the look. No more hiding for sure…
That was a great idea! I just love your little corner–so sweet and girly. Every inch of my kitchen counters is utilitarian, no matter how hard I try to make it pretty. Cooking from scratch for six just yields a lot of STUFF to deal with all the time.
The kitty cat copper mold made me smile!

Hello Kathy,

That’s a delightful makeover. I collect milk glass, so I love the look. I also have one of those Anchor Hocking biscuit jars, and, like you, move it out the way when I photograph the area–except at Christmas, when I love the look of the thick, old-fashioned peppermint sticks in it. Your corner area is wonderful.
Hi Kathy~ ~
I just love the jar. I have 2 in my kitchen one for sugar and one for flour and they look great clear. You are so right that some things just need to be hidden and your solution is brilliant. I have an idea for you?? I would love to make one of these jars but I have no talent putting together graphics. Do you still have the graphic in your computer and would you be willing to sell me one. I’ll bet there are others who would love to purchase the completed graphic from you. Maybe we could even include the Graghic Fairy in this so that she can profit too. All who contributed to this should be rewarded. Let me know what you think?
Make it a wonderful weekend!
