I hope you had a marvelous week. Mine was a mixed bag of the good, the bad and the awesome. Hah! You thought I was going to say ugly! As I sit here the morning light is just beginning to peak throught the trees on the East horizon – I love the softness and beauty of a sun-filled morning.
The good –
I have begun my kitchen renovation. So many of you were right – this is a big project. I began by clearing out and cleaning the bank of kitchen cabinets – sorting as I went – not everything is going back. Some things are being donated, some things will go to my children and some things in storage – maybe some things will be sold.
I am very happy with the initial results – I’ll share more later.
The bad –
On Wednesday at work I was retrieving the books from the book drop. As I was walking back, plastic crate in hand, I stepped wrong where there’s a small pot hole in the parking lot – my left ankle twisted outward and I went down like a tree. I fell on the crate – I also scraped my knees. Gingerly I rose and tested the foot. I could walk, but with quite a lot of pain. Hobbling in I told my co-worker and called my Manager. Taking pain meds and bandaging it up I continued my work – carefully- the rest of the day. And, I checked the security camera – Yes! It was not caught on tape and my fellow co-workers could NOT see me go down and replay it – over and over – I am a quick healer and as I type I am doing much better.
The awesome –
I have worked three days straight on our kitchen – enjoying the process – paying attention to detail. Dearest spent the day Saturday mowing our grass and the grass at the church. I told him it was raining in the Atlanta area and we might get rain. ‘You ALWAYS say it is going to rain...’ Well… Then as I was clearing up my renovation work and began preparing our dinner – I heard a noise. Rain! Heavy rain! Dearest had just left to go to the store. I ran to the back door to be ready to greet him with a big grin on my face. I looked to my left and decided to take down the hanging plant to get some of the nourishing rain. As I stepped down I glanced to the right. And there was the AWESOME. Just over the edge of the barn and before the Crape Myrtle was a rainbow! Yes! The bottom was sitting ON OUR BARN! I squealed and ran indoors. I called my son – I had just talked to him and knew he was on his way home from work – He said, take a picture! Duh! Why didn’t I think of that! Grabbing my camera I stepped out and that one cloud of rain had moved on – the rainbow was gone! But, I’ll never forget it and I did share that moment with my son.
And so I muse…
We make plans for ourselves each day, week, month. Most of the time, these plans come to fruition. But, then there’s always the unexpected – good or bad or awesome. They happen to us all – we just need to take those in stride (really, no pun intended) and continue on. Overall, life is so wonderful – it is what we make of all that happen to us that counts.
My Bliss List for this week:
Finding a new perfume – Marchessa!
Finding rainbows in unexpected places
Warm and familiar fragrances – baking bread and roasting chicken
A long, strong hug from my children
A song that makes me want to dance and hobbling instead with a smile instead
A long, strong hug from a friend (o.k. I just love hugs)
Seeing a boyish grin come on my Dearest when he sees my surprise –
a couple of manuals for restoring his 53 Chevrolet
Knowing we’ve been in our dream home for 10 years and the dream has only just begun
Looking forward to the week ahead….
I hope you have a marvelous upcoming week, that you accomplish all you wish and that you make room for the unexpected and the awesome!
