Listen

“Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.” Psalm 8:34

In our world today there is so much vying for our attention. More often than not, we have our cell phones by our sides and we’re constantly notified when someone sends a message or when something is posted on a Social Media that we follow.

Oh, that we would be so connected to our LORD and God.

I have been convicted of this. I know it is important for me to take time to be quiet, to read and to pray, but there are those days that I wake up running. And I feel like I’m running all the day long with something missing. I didn’t take the time to stop and to listen.

There’s Nothing that Can Replace Time Alone With God

We can and so often do run our lives on our own energies and our own wits. But, truthfully, we’re running on reserve when we could be tapping in on unlimited resources. We truly don’t know what lies ahead in our day – without that quiet time, we are not fully prepared to appropriately handle that situation.

Peace, Serenity, Wisdom are Of God

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Once you’ve experienced that all encompassing, complete sense of peace that can only come from God – why would you want any thing else? It’s a guarantee that at some point or another we will be faced with a challenge, a difficulty, or even a tragedy – that to truly manage it well we will need that recourse. We will need God’s peace.

“But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” Luke 11:28

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.” Proverbs 2:6-8

” Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

“But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.  And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” James 3:13-18

If You Listen

That is if you take the time to be quiet, to read God’s Word, to speak to Him through prayer – He will give you the peace and wisdom you need for your daily life. We need to be plugged in. We need to be much more plugged in to the heart of God than we do to those notifications we receive constantly each day through those things we have made important to us – that truly, was it that important to be notified right then?

If you make time to read and to pray, if you listen you’ll hear the love, peace and joy from God. Your heart and mind will be tuned into what is the most important thing for you to see and hear when you’re faced with the challenges of life. All we need to do first is to listen.
