Serene SundayConstancy

When I was a little girl, my Dad taught me how to stand on a moving ship. He was in the Navy and my sister, Mom and I took a family tour out to sea with him and others. Dad taught me how to stand, how to balance and how to keep my composure while the ship was moving. There is a constancy in viewing the horizon. Now when I go to the beach and look along at the horizon – where sky meets sea – I remember what Dad taught me.

God Has Also Taught Me How to Stand

The First Thing is to Completely Trust God – Your Father

Just like I trusted my Dad, I’ve learned to completely trust God.

“But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.” Psalm 13:5-6

“And now, O Lord God, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:” II Samuel 7:28

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9

Having a good trust relationship with my Father, I knew what he told me and what he taught me was true. I have complete faith in God and know what He’s teaching me through His word, through life’s experiences and through others – is true. I’ve learned no matter what the circumstances to plant my feet firmly and to trust God.

Lean

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” I Samuel 30:6

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Psalm 5:3

“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” Psalm 18:2

” I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:13-14

In a storm, sometimes we can’t see the horizon. But it’s there. That’s when we have to trust God – lean fully into Him and trust that He is in control and He knows what’s going on in your life. Trust Him completely to do His will because of His unfailing love for you.

Put Your Feet In the Right Place

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:26-27

“And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.” Hebrews 12:13

How we stand and where we go makes a great deal of difference in our lives. If we have developed a deep relationship with God we know that it is important to walk a true path. We don’t say, do things or go places that would not please God. We can also know more about God’s heart and His will by spending time in His word. Sometimes, all we can see is enough for the next step. With our complete trust in God in His directing our lives we can confidently walk on.

Know God is Faithful

“Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;” Deuteronomy 7:9

“Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.” Psalm 36:5

“It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” Hebrews 10:23

God keeps His promises. He always has and he always will. We sometimes cannot see for the storms in life, but then there’s that rainbow. The rainbow reminds us of His promise to all. It reminds us God is there in the midst of the storms – He knows all about what’s going on in our lives and we can trust Him.

God is Dependable

The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.  Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield. For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.  And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied. But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.” Psalm 59:10-17

“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.” Isaiah 25:1

God’s Unfailing Love and Constancy

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39-39

When life presents to us difficult moments; when the ground beneath us is unsure – we can trust the constancy of God. He is faithful, he is dependable and He loves us more than we can know or understand. We can stand in the storms of life – believing Him, trusting Him, leaning on Him and drawing near to Him. God’s love for us is true it is unfailing. God’s love will heal our hearts and minds – and bring about an amazing peace and joy – that is indescribable.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” Colossians 3:15

” In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” Psalm 94:19

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
