A Very Romantic Craft – FAUX MERCURY GLASS

Candlelight is so very romantic. I love adding candles to every room. I love the patina of Mercury glass. The ambiance is so beautiful. It is pretty easy to make your own faux Mercury glass.
I have seen a number of examples of this very romantic craft. There are several methods you can use. I just had to try this craft!

After reading several examples of how to make your own faux Mercury Glass, I chose to combine two methods. I chose to go with a method combining Silver Leaf and Looking Glass spray paint. I so love Looking Glass Spray paint! I have used it for several projects!

I love the results! The varying texture and patina the Silver Leaf gives the glass and the sheer elegance Looking Glass paint adds.

In the photo above, you can see the texture given to the votives by the Silver Leaf. The more translucent look shows up better  in lower light. This makes these faux Mercury Glass votives quite romantic!

This is how the votives look without the candles lit. They do appear more opaque yet still beautiful and elegant. The aged patina of Mercury glass lends itself well to varying styles of decor. I have these in my green room which is decorated in a romantic Shabby Chic./Garden Cottage decor.

Above are the three votives I found at a thrift store. They have some etching on them. I am looking forward to seeing whether these markings are visible adding charm to the appearance. I will share in another post a more detail step-by-step process so that you might be able to try this very lovely, romantic craft.

I love adding romantic touches to the decor in our home. This is such a very easy way to achieve a romantic look in any room.

Here’s a list of products for the project:

Krylon Looking Glass - approximately $12 Hobby Lobby
Silver Leaf  Mona Lisa Products- approximately $9 Hobby Lobby
Metal Leaf Adhesive  Mona Lisa Products - approximately $4 Hobby Lobby
Glass - from home and Salvation Army

In this project, I used one sheet of Silver Leaf. The package comes with 25, so that initially it may seem expensive,
but I believe there are quite a number of projects I can do using the Silver Leaf.
