For many years I had seen enchanting, charming images of various areas of the city of Savannah. Those breathtaking Live Oak trees draped with Spanish moss, transport. I then have had the privilege to spend some time in Savannah, to walk the streets, to see the squares and those Live Oak trees. I have stayed in hotels where the artwork depict that which have become to be known as signatures of Savannah. So, at our last, brief visit, I wished to bring back for myself, Savannah in black and white.
The Live Oaks
These majestic trees grace the streets and neighborhoods in Savannah. They’re romantically draped with Spanish moss creating an enchanting atmosphere. They’re beautiful in full light and color. In black and white, mysterious.
The Wrought Iron
Savannah is well known for its beautifully scrolled wrought iron. You can see it in fences, decor, lighting and as accents on the amazing architecture of the buildings.
In black and white, the wrought iron’s detail comes to life.
The amazing architecture…and gardens. These buildings and homes line the several squares in Savannah. Their beauty and color draw your attention and cause you to pause.
Black and white enhances the contrasts in colors and in the textures of the plants.
So many exquisite fountains grace several of the squares in Savannah. their beauty and the sound of the dancing water draw one to linger.
In black and white, beauty and motion become details to bring awe.
Simple day-to-day things like this bicycle demonstrate the lifestyle in Savannah. The many students and people enjoying their home.
In Black and white, this simple bike becomes artwork.
Lightroom
I used Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to adjust my photos. Some of the presets I used included Direct Positive, Punch and Medium Contrast Curve. You can use Picmonkey or Canva, online photo editing, as well to adjust your photos. Creating beautiful black and white photos is fun. It’s amazing to see them transform and to see detail come to light.
Art Gallery
Recently, I updated the look to our upper hallway. We’ve had artwork from my parents for years gracing these walls. I love the rosewood frames. I decided to take some of my Savannah in black and white photos to replace the drawings. It was difficult to select which ones I thought best represented the beauty of Savannah.
The frames were odd shaped – their well over 50 years old! So I had to have the photos matted. I love how they all turned out.
I am delighted now to have some of the charm of Savannah in my home. I love replicating the beauty of the black and white artwork I saw during my visits. Creating artwork from our photos is fun. It’s a beautiful way to keep memories and to display that which we enjoy and admire. I do so love Savannah in black and white.
Post Script
Not only does Savannah boast of beauty in its architecture, wrought iron, fountains, Live Oak trees and more, but there are many wonderful places to visit! My daughter and future daughter-in-law just spent a couple days there for a bachelorette getaway. Darling Daughter brought me a treat back, she knows I love all things French…she brought back this delightsome pastry from LE CAFÉ GOURMET – French Bakery and Café in Savannah. She said the crepes were fantastic!
