I share just how we did it and some wedding picturesOur youngest daughter envisioned painted canning jars  along the aisles in the ceremony, on the tables in the cemetery and in the game area. I loved the color she selected. It was quite easy to paint the jars and I love the look of the distressing.

Painted Jars along the Aisles

We had straw bales for seating that were covered with fabric. Along each aisle, our son-in-law cut stumps that my daughter wished to be topped with doilies and painted mason jars filled with sunflower bouquets.

On this coffee table (built by my son-in-law) we had a canning jar…to make this an inviting site.

How to Paint Canning Jars

Chalk Painted Canning Jars are so lovely! Our daughter wanted them for her wedding - we painted over 50! I share just how we did it and some wedding picturesWhat you will need:

  • Chalk Paint – (homemade recipe below)
  • canning jars, (the ones with texture look best)
  • soft bristle brush (1 1/2 inch)
  • coarse sanding paper

Set your jars on craft paper, wax paper or plastic. Either use chalk paint of your choice or make your own using the recipe below. With a soft bristled brush paint on the chalk paint from top of the jar to bottom holding the brush nearly horizontal to the jar as evenly as possible. Set aside. Apply a second and/or third coat – I recommend at least three – allowing to dry thoroughly between painting. Using the sanding paper (you can also use a nail file) gently rub the paint off along the raised designs on the jar. You remove as much of the paint as you desire – now you can use them outside and inside for your entertaining and decorating.

Painted Jars in the Dining Room

I would love to paint more jars – different colors – they add such country charm to a room’s decor or to an outdoor tabletop.
