French Impressions GG chair

French Impressions Settee 2This chair and sette posed interesting challenges for me.

French Impressions two chairsThe chair was one of three I have from my Great-Grandfather. I love these chairs – because they make me think of him and because he was shorter than me and when I sit down, my feet touch the floor! I am not that tall and sometimes chairs make me feel like a child with my feet swinging!

in the foreground is another project - repairing and reupholstering the settee

before – repairing and reupholstering the settee- nailheads could still be seen where I applied the trim-

French Impressions settee topI also replaced the trim all along the front – The brown and blue colors go well with both fabrics.

French Impressions all chairsI slipcovered the two chairs before the fireplace a while back. Great-grandpa’s chair is a replacement from what had been there – I felt that this chair better fit the bedroom’s new look.

French Impressions ribbon tieI doubled the pillows in this seat to make it fluffy and added satin ribbons at each corner to secure the cushion. The fabric and the trim came from a fabric store that sells by the pound twice a year – I have quite a collection of fabric and am glad that the fabric on the chairs compliment each other.

French Impressions painted chairI painted the chairs years ago, I may change the flowers – to larger roses – not sure yet.

French Impressions chair basketI think the cushion on the window seat needs a slipcover to coordinate with the new fabrics. What do you think? I am reminded of the movie, ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy“. In the movie, Pope Julius II frequently asked Michelangeo, ‘when will you make an end to it’ as he painted the Cistine Chapel’s ceiling. My bedroom transformation is definitely not the Cistine Chapel, but I do wonder when I will make an end to this project…I have pillows, curtains, faux flowers and a painting in mind yet to be done so far.
