Keeping Track of Your Blessings
Usually, if our day is going well and there’s nothing too big or too hard to handle then we don’t put much thought into that day.
The old saying goes, ‘the squeeky wheel gets the grease’. The intended meaning was the one who constantly complained got the attention rather than the one who quietly does their job.
I think we can sometimes make that the case in our own lives. When the sun is shining, and the days go without cause for pain or for concern, we tend to go along with it and not take note.
In Everything and in Every Circumstance We Give Thanks
When the morning breaks and it is going to be a beautiful day – we should give thanks. We should take time to think upon all the very many blessings surrounding our lives. We can be thankful for our family, our friends, our homes, food on the table, a job to pay the bills, our health, transportation, clothing and such….I believe if we took the time, we could come up with a long list of blessings….
These Blessings Don’t Go Away When Something Bad Comes Along
This is for sure! BUT, doesn’t it seem that the bad thing becomes so huge, so loud – the squeeky wheel gets your attention and overshadows those daily, wonderful blessings?
Plant Your Feet Firmly In Faith
‘Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.’ James 1:12
Each day, when interacting with people I try to remember that everyone has something they’re dealing with. I try to remember not to react to them if they come across harshly or impatiently – I try to see beyond the immediate situation. It’s not always easy – but, it is worthwhile.
Stand firm in your faith if it is you going through a difficult time. Nothing takes God by surprise and He knows exactly what you’re going through. He has promised that no matter what, we are never alone. We can also be assured that circumstances won’t be forever.
Trials Can Make You Stronger
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2
We know that when we go through trials and come out from them we can be made stronger for the experience. Also, we can have a particular empathy for someone else going through the trial – we can be a blessing to them just by understanding.
It may seem odd and unusual to count it a blessing to actually go through something difficult…but, we have to keep so many other things in mind. This life is not it. We’re not here to live our lives only for ourselves and there’s always a bigger purpose to everything.
If we realize that our life here is but a moment before our eternal life – what we experience here will only be the steps leading to that life.
Others’ going through trials may need us to help them through it – it’s alway easier when someone else fully understands and cam empathize.
From the beginning, when sin entered the earth evil and bad things happened. But, also, from the beginning God had a plan. God desires a relationship with us and in His plan a way for us to be with Him and not only that – but also to have a wonderful relationship here with other believers.
This is our way of going through something – the faith, the hope and the knowledge that we’re completely and totally loved by God –
So, take stock of your blessings. Write them down. When trials come – and we all know the will – we can refresh our memories with these blessings – focus on the good things in our lives and learn from the difficult – so that we can draw closer to God and so that we can be a blessing to someone else.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10
