“Have nothing in our house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful” William Morris
Hi! I’m Kathy! Welcome! Come into my home for a moment. Have a seat – coffee or tea? Let’s chat!
What’s Cottage Style? How do I achieve my signature style?
William Morris was a pioneer in his time in interior decorating. When others were leaning toward the deeply ornate, the grandeur of objects…he followed his own path toward simpler living. This philosophy resonates with me. What in my home makes me feel at home? What in your home makes you, your family and friends feel at home? I believe we all have an insight as to what makes our own home beautiful, comfortable and welcoming – we just need to be encouraged and have the confidence to know it, own it and realize it!
This is Us!
Dearest and I have set our roots in a small, rural town. We are blessed to live in a 100+ year old Craftsman home that requires some renovating, has a lovely garden and is so much fun to decorate.I am a full-time Empty Nester now with three beautiful children – all married and one Grandbaby on the way!
My Talents – What I can Do!
I have always loved learning – If I don’t know how to do something – I work at it until I figure it out! I am an encourager, a teacher, kind, a believer in all things good, I love laughter, I am ALWAYS enamoured at a full moon, I am easily side-tracked in a good way! You know… “Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away”. I am loyal to a fault, I am a good listener…I am a collector, I love items that have been loved and have history. It’s hard for me to pass up a white pitcher, really hard!…I love God, family and home.
From Mom I inherited artistic talent and from Dad the love of gardening and cooking. I believe everyone can create the home of their dreams – they just need a little encouragement!
How Can You Achieve Your Signature Cottage Style?
Cottage Home is all about every room in our home and how we can create serene settings for our family to enjoy.
Home is not a place it is a feeling…each one of the rooms in our home has a story all its own. In my home, as you walk in through the front door (most likely through the back), immediately you are welcomed by serene colors, decor and a comfortable feel. Everyone is welcomed to our home. I love decorating, creating and styling our home to reflect family and the decor styles I admire.
I love to collect – from white pitchers and dishes to cast iron – almost anything with a bit of history.
When I find something beautiful in an Estate sale I feel as if I’m carrying on the love and care for that treasured object. It’s those treasured objects we put together to make our cottage styles our own – I’ll share ideas of what I love to collect and what you can find to create your own Cottage style.
How A Delightsome Life came to be.
As with many, I have enjoyed reading inspiring blogs for several years. After some time I thought that I wanted to be part of this community, to share my passions and the beautiful things happening in our life. So, on May 2010 I began A Delightsome Life.
A Delightsome Life:
When considering what to name my blog, I thought of things I’d like to evoke regarding my life. I wanted to convey that I appreciate a certain rhythm to life.
Moving to the country, my family had to change some of our habits. I think for the better. We are now members of a small community, where literally everybody knows your name. There’s a sense of belonging. You know your pharmacist and his family, you know your grocer, your mailman/woman-they are your neighbors-they are your friends.
Then I recalled a word that I read a long time ago in the Bible that makes me smile. I believe it embodies the sentiment that I want to convey in my blog. That word is ‘delightsome’.The word delightsome is found in Malachi 3:12, “And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.” Instantly, I became enchanted and enamored with that word. I enjoy the sound of the word.
Delightsome is derived from the Hebrew word chephets which means delight, pleasure, desire, longing, the good pleasure, that in which one takes delight. Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines delightsome as, “very pleasing; delightful”. Chephets occurs 38 times in the Bible translated as delight, desireth, desire, pleasure, willingly and purpose.
Another part of my blog is to celebrate the rhythms of life. Not so much the scheduled rhythms like Spring and Fall cleaning, but the pace of life. The slower pace of life where you appreciate moments and take them as they come.
