Habitat Restore and More…

I try to visit the Habitat Restore as often as I can – it is a good half hour drive – well, most everything from our country home is a good half hour drive! I have found many wonderful things at the Habitat Restore and love supporting this marvelous place. I found these two chairs there and knew they’d have a place in my dining room redecrating plans.

“Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and proceeds are used to build homes, community, and hope locally and around the world.”

Hands of Haven

Hands of Haven

A special partnership with Haven Bloggers and Habitat for Humanity. On July 26 a number of Bloggers participated in a special event to build a home. This oppoturnity to support and help Habitat for Humanity and the Restore is taken beyond this event. You can go th the Hands of Haven site and donate or follow the guidelines for the month of September in Hands of Haven Month. It is a marvelous thing to give of oneself to help another – also a marvelous thing to share your gifts and talents in this way!

Transforming Furniture with Paint and Fabric

When I found these chairs at the Restore, I knew where I would want them to be. I knew how I wanted them to look. At first I was looking for complimentary fabric – red, but since the whole scheme had changed to blue, I was looking for fabric that would be similar to that of the fabric of the pillows. While at the Goodwill across the street from the Restore, I came across this gold and yellow buffalo checked fabric. I really liked it, but didn’t see where it would work. I put it back then left. A half hour later and several miles down the road – I had a change of heart. I made my way back to the store hoping no one had picked it up! I went back to where I set it down. It wasn’t there. I did some digging and voila! I found the fabric. I learned once again – if you like it – take it then! Now, I know – this is the perfect fabric for these chairs!

Anne Sloan Old White

I knew these chairs would be cream – to compliment the cream in the trim and in the curtain fabrics. I love the soft, creamy color of Anne Sloan Old White.

More Changes

more changesThese chairs were red – I loved them! But, I thought they stood out too much. This is a brilliant blue, yes. But it does bring out the dark blue in the curtains and in the pillows. I also changed the fabric to this beautiful blue Toile – I had to find a way to add toile to this room! (Roxie was patiently waiting for me to finish – I’m thinking this area rug needs replacing too – on the hunt!)

The Rest of the Chairs

rest of the chairsI had enough of the Goodwill fabric to recover each of the rest of the dining room chairs. I like the warm, soft look this fabric adds to the room.

Creamware

creamwareI found this large candle stand and the two lanterns at Hobby Lobby – I loved their look and they were on clearance! I have several creamware platters from Decor Steals that I will incorporate into the decor of this room. I decided to glue (I used Gorilla Glue – a Haven sponsor!) one of the largest platters atop this stand to create a high table – it goes beautifully with thus planter that I filled with dried Lavender – This corner is coming together!

What’s Left To Do?

what's leftI now need to fill the walls with decor and I still need to make the Roman shades for the windows. I am really considering a new area rug for the dining room – this one could work in the living room. I am very glad to be nearing the end of this transformation – I’ve truly enjoyed the process and the changes.
