Giving Aged Patina to a Side Table
I love the look of age worn patina on painted furniture. My dining room has an air of collected pieces from different places and different times. I found this lovely oval harp side table at an Estate sale. It fits perfectly by the dining room’s window seat. I was given the opportunity to review Amy Howard at Home’s One Step Paint and I knew that this table would be the perfect candidate.
I chose the color Chelsea Square. It is a soft gray that I knew would be a perfect foundation for the antiquing process and would complement the painted furniture in the dining room.

- Dust of Ages
- Artisanal brushes
Step One: Apply Paint
I followed the directions and stirred the paint very well – it becomes quite thick and thicker if you let sit for 15 to 20 minutes. I applied two coats of the paint using the artisanal brushes; I allowed 30 minutes between coating.
Light Antique Wax
Dark Antique Wax
After the antique waxes have had about 15 minutes to set and are still tacky, I applied the Dust of Ages with an Amy Howard brush. The wow factor was instantaneous! I was amazed at the beautiful timeworn affect the Dust of Ages created. I set the table on brown paper. Applying the dust liberally and buffing it into the decorative parts of the table. Afterwards I brushed off the excess and buffed the table. The total affect was amazing! Don’t worry about over using the Dust of Ages – you can gather it back into the jar and reuse it!
The Table Transformed
I love the finished look. The antiqued patina is subtle and beautiful. Now, this table fits beautifully with the decor.
