Hydration
A cool glass of water – at times there’s nothing better. The moment the water passes your lips, reaches your throat and flows into your body – you begin to feel hydrated.
You know you’ve just done something very good for you.
Water is most essential to every part of our bodies. Our blood is approximately 90 percent water, our brain and muscle contains seventy-five percent water, our bones contain 22 percent water and even fat contains 20 percent water. Water is essential to our bodies; water is essential to our health.
We need water as much as we need the air we breathe
As necessary as water is to our bodies we need to make a conscious effort to drink water. We need to be selective too about the water we drink. Most municipal waters are o.k. – but some can contain too many minerals and chemicals that do more harm than good. Our bodies lose more water each day than we realize. I’ve read that we potentially lose up to 10 or more cups of water a day. The recommended eight glasses of water would then still fall short of our daily needs.
How to Incorporate More Water into our daily lives
-
begin each day with a glass of water
-
drink water throughout the day
-
infuse your water with herbs and fruits
-
eat more fresh foods
-
drink water thirty minutes before each meal
-
finish each day with a glass of water
-
eat more soups
Infused Waters
I love it when we’re out traveling and I see a large water container filled with chilled fruit infused water. This has become so popular and now so accessible. you can find water bottles with infusers, infusers to set in mason jars and pitchers fitted with infusers.
What can one add to water:
-
lemons
-
limes
-
pineapple
-
apple
-
orange
-
cucumber
-
strawberries
-
mango
-
blueberries
-
raspberries
-
pears
-
peach
-
honeydew
-
mint
-
ginger
-
grapefruit
Mix any combination of these fruits for a wide variety of delicious infused waters.
Sometimes, water is enough as it is.
There’s nothing better, after working hard in the garden than a large glass of chilled water. Sometimes, too, when we think we’re hungry we are actually thirsty. Drinking water before the meal helps us to curb our appetites and to fulfill our daily need for water.
Make it a Habit
Reach for water when you’re thirsty. Reach for water more often in the day – you’ll feel much better and look better – bonus!
I am sharing this post with these Delightsome blog parties:
Great post, Kathy! I have been drinking eight glasses or more of water a day for years. My body reminds me if I don’t get enough because I feel thirsty. It helps control weight gain, flushes out harmful toxins, and also gives your skin a wonderful glow. I don’t care for the infused water but I do like to add a slice of lemon to mine. We are hooked up to the city water which doesn’t taste great. I can taste and smell the chlorine in it so I buy my own. When one has as many health problems as I have, it is essential to drink enough water. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Sandi
I am trying to drink more water and it has been good for me as I am dealing with a flu. Each evening I have a big glassful before retiring to bed and keep a glassful f ice water by my bedside to sip as my throat gets dry.
Definitely trying to cut down on soda and any I drink is caffeine-free.
I love your water decanter.
Thank you Rose, it is amazing how much better we feel when we drink more water – I hope you get well soon!
