Being Found Faithful
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4:2
Faithfulness is one of those characteristics of God that describes his characteristic firmness, reliability, constancy.
There are things that we can rely upon knowing the character of God:
- God is true
- God is unchangeable
- God keeps His promises
- God is trustworthy
As believers, we are also called upon to be faithful. We are to emulate this characteristic of God in all of our life so that others can see God in our lives. Now what does that mean for us and how does it look like?
Webster’s 1828 Dictionary defines faithfulness as:
Fidelity; loyalty; firm adherence to allegiance and duty; as the faithfulness of a subject. Truth; veracity; as the faithfulness of God. Strict adherence to injunctions, and to the duties of a station; as the faithfulness of servants or ministers. Strict performance of promises, vows or covenants; constancy in affection; as the faithfulness of a husband or wife.
We are to show ourselves trustworthy:
- in the duties, transactions, in how we execute and discharge these duties.
- We are to be worthy of trust – able to be relied upon
- Others should have confidence in us
- We are to keep our word
How do we demonstrate our faithfulness toward’s God?
First of all – we are to believe in God, in His word and in His Son Jesus Christ. We are also to demonstrate our trust in God through believing. Not only believing in God, but also believing all that He has said of His Son Jesus Christ that He is the Messiah who was raised from the dead and who lives.
In our lives we are given tasks to perform, as with any job, outside of our faith. In our jobs we are required to perform these tasks – we are to be found faithful in all of our dealings.
In our personal lives, we are to be found faithful in our conduct and in our speech toward one another.
Being faithful builds relationships.
This applies to our relationship with God and with others. It is a quality that encourages confidence in others – it is a quality that brings about security in our lives.
God in His faithfulness demonstrates so very many things to us all – that it is so worthy of emulating.
In the Bible – God’s faithfulness is found in His name, in His Character, and in His being.
“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” Psalm 18:2
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;” Hebrews 10:23
Each day we have choices in all of our actions and words. To be found faithful among one another and toward God should be an underlying goal of ours in all that we do.
We all are growing and learning. We all know ourselves as does God. He is and will always be faithful to us. We in turn have opportunity each day to grow, to improve and to demonstrate that we too can be faithful towards God and towards others.
It is worthy to take a moment to examine ourselves, our thoughts, motives and actions. What is the purpose for all we do? Are we pursuing for our own selves, or are we wishing to be a blessing to others and to God – do we wish to be found faithful?
