The Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman – Part II

She Looks Well to the Ways of Her Home

Last week I shared that a Virtuous Woman is rare and to be known as a Virtuous Woman is an honorable endeavor. The ones whose opinions matter the most are her family and it was to that I began with How She Treats Her Family.

First and foremost, a woman who endeavors to obtain qualities known to be ‘virtuous’ seeks this honor and pleasure from God. This honor from God is the highest achievement for any woman. Our lives are to be a praise to Him.

What does Virtuous mean – ‘Goodness, moral excellence, perfection, virtue, uprightness, gracious’.

A Virtuous Woman is more than a wife, mother and housekeeper – she is the Keeper of the Home. In her efforts to care for her family and her home she looks for ways to enhance the home by caring for it and by creating a wonderful place for her family and friends.

She Is Conscientious

She knows what her family needs and what is good for her family. She willingly ‘works with her hands’ to create that home which welcomes and delights her family. ‘She seeketh wool and flax’ these were the things that care for her family and keep them comfortable and warm. The Virtuous Woman will work hard to make sure her family’s needs are met.

“She seeketh wool, and flax and worketh willingly with her hands” Proverbs 31:13

She is Thrifty

She will seek to find those things that not only meet her family’s needs, but she will be diligent in attending to the ways of doing so that work within her family’s means. Knowing where and how to shop for those things her family needs is a learned skill and one that takes great effort. Whether she grows her own food or shops for it she attends to it so that she works within her family’s budget.

“She is like the merchant’s ships; she bringeth her food from afar.” Proverbs 31:14

She is Self-Starting

She will awake early in the morning to begin to attend to the tasks at hand for the day. She will prepare for her family’s needs and to those under her care. She plans for her day so that all the needs of her household are met.

“She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.” Proverbs 31:15

She is Resourceful

She will work for her family and will have the means to meet the needs. That may include working outside of the family. And while she works she does so with it benefits her family.

“She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.” Proverbs 31:16

She is Willing to Work Hard

She is a planner and a worker willing to do the work however long it may take. A virtuous woman looks well to all of the ways of her home so that her family’s needs are met. This is how she demonstrates her love toward her family and most especially her God.

“She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.” Proverbs 31:18

She is Creative

She will develop those skills that she may have a talent for whether it will be sewing, painting, creating, gardening and such so that it benefits her family and her home.

“She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.” Proverbs 31:19

There are so many ways to endeavor to work hard for our families. We have the wonderful pleasure of creating a beautiful home, of seeking those things that make that home beautiful. The most important thing in all these efforts is the heart of the woman. It is out of deep love for God and for her family that she willingly does all those things that will benefit her home and will make her favorable in God’s sight. She finds it a pleasure to do those things for her family – there’s a wonderful joy in loving her family this way and most importantly her God.
