Just Keep Swimming
One of my favorite movie lines…’just keep swimming’. It applies to so many things. Each day we face new adventures, new beauties and new challenges. Each day we whittle away at the projects we’re working on and each day we have challenges that may make us want to throw it all up in the air and surrender.
“The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools. Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not inquire wisely concerning this. Wisdom is good with an inheritance, And profitable to those who see the sun.” Ecclesiastes 7:8-11
But, Just Keep Swimming, Friend
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
When things get difficult, just don’t give up. If you need rest, and I’ve talked about the importance of rest before…Get the rest you need. But, don’t give up. Be strong. Be courageous…Why? God is always present – no matter what! You can’t drive Him away…and don’t forget….
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
Ruminate, meditate, think about this a moment…God has thoughts toward you. You, personally. God loves you beyond what you can imagine…and through the Holy Spirit – God is ever present with you. That circumstance, that person, that problem that seems like a mountain too high to climb – is nothing…when we know and trust God with everything.
Let God and Trust
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
I know. I’m that person too. I like to fix things. I like to solve problems…I like to help…but, sometimes we just have to trust God when things don’t seem to be working out – on our time…God sees the past, present and the future – He’s got this!
God Understands our Frame
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
God knows. He knows your personality and what makes you tick. He knows what can get under your skin and what you can handle. We’re not asked to do the fixing or to do the figuring out of ALL things...we should go out there and do our best in what ever is given to us to do…but, if we can’t fix it or solve a problem right away…don’t be dismayed…don’t fret…don’t dwell on it…Turn to God in everything, pray and trust that He will do what He needs to do…which may or may not align with what we think needs to be done.
It’s Not Over Until It’s Over
“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.” Philippians 3:12
Paul had it hard. He was beat, put in prison, mocked, and more…yet, he went on for and with the LORD. The man that Paul was, known as Saul, didn’t deter him or distract him. Because he knew the man he was; realized the tremendous grace God shed toward him…Paul pressed on for his LORD. So can we. What can stop us…what can harm us…what can prevent us from our relationship with God. Nothing. Nothing we can do ourselves or nothing anyone can do for us. What potential we have to do what God has placed us here to do is there…No matter your age or experience – God can and will use you…through whatever circumstance. So, don’t make the hard times, difficult people or situations more than they should be. They’re just threads woven in your life experience – their not the whole work that God is completing in you.
There’s a Time for Everything
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; ” Ecclesiastes 3:1-3
You may observe someone on their best day or best days…But, don’t be fooled. Everyone has difficulties. Everyone is going through something at one point or another…There’s a time for all of this in our lives. So, we keep swimming…we keep moving…we keep praying…we keep trusting…we keep singing…and we keep living our lives forward for God.
Be Comforted so You May Comfort Another
“Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. ” II Corinthians 1:4-9
Would it surprise you to learn that perhaps the difficulty you may be going through is so that you can have empathy toward someone who may need you. Have you ever talked with someone going through a very hard time and said, ‘I know how you feel…I felt the same way…and here’s what I learned…’ Many times, how God uses us is through our experiences so that others may see how God worked and revealed Himself to us in our life and through our difficulties. It’s a privilege after all God has done and from His tremendous love toward us to reflect the love of God through us – toward others who need.
Refresh Yourself Each Day Through God
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” Ephesians 3:17-19
So, my friend. You may wake today with a heavy heart not being able to see a solution to the situation you face. You may have someone who just seems to be determined to test or undermine you. Don’t focus on those things. Pray – surrender your heart, life – this day to God. Determine that no matter what – you’ll serve Him and be used for good by Him. Rest when you need to. Refresh yourself in God’s word, through prayer and through song…Don’t fret or give up…God knows this situation – and He’s got this – and most importantly – He’s got you.
