A Visit To The Library
It has been rather chilly in the South. For that matter, winter has been quite stark for many of us – causing us to remain indoors and seek occupation therein.
One of my favorite things to do is to visit our local library, even on the days that I don’t work.
In Georgia, we have what is called our ‘Pines’ (Georgia Public Library Service also known as Evergreen)system – an inter-library loan program that allows me to search for books (from any library in the state), place them on hold and check them out – from your local library. It is quite marvelous actually.
I love that you can ‘try-before-you-buy’ so to speak.
So, I did some searching – as an example for you – I kind of got carried away. I see it as sort of taking one for the team
The library covers every topic under the sun – that has been written about. Many of our interests are well covered. For instance, Interior Decorating, Cooking, Gardening, Crafting, Thrifting and more.
The library also acquires the latest books, so that you can see them and perhaps decide whether this book would be a good one to add to your library. You can also develop a ‘wish list’ of these books you try out.
Here’s how the system works in Georgia -
First locate your local library. Do you have a library card? Is it current and do you know your password? Update this information.
Second – open the Pines system online scroll down and in the center you’ll see the selection – Pines Online Library Catalog
You can begin your search here if you know the title of the book you’re interested in or if you know of a particular author you’d like to search.
Or, you can click on the ‘advanced’ search and begin from there.

You can do a quick search – by call number, ISBN number, bar code and more. You can also do a search by subject, author, title or key word
When you find a book you like, you can easily find others in the same subject line by clicking on the ‘subject’. For Interior Decoration – which can be found in the 747 section of the library – you can find quite a number of books – they’re further subdivided - French Interior Decorf falls under 747.09.
Once you click on the subject ‘Interior Decoration’ you’ll be given a screen listing several books within that subject.
You can go even further. You can select books that have most recently been published and added to the library’s system by clicking on ‘limit to availability “newest to oldest” ‘.
As I shared earlier, Interior Decoration falls under 747. Other Call Numbers you may be interested include: Gardening 635; Cooking 641; Tablescapes 642; Sewing 646; Home Remodel 690; and China 738.
Have I got you intrigued? Are you homebound by the chilly wintry weather – why don’t you see if you’re local library – and/or state library system is online – get your card current and begin browsing. You can make your selections, place them on hold and await for them to be sent to your local library for your review.

recognize that smiling face in the lower right corner? That’s our fellow blogger, Layla Palmer in ‘Flea Market Finds with Matthew Mead’!
If you like the book, you can easily add it to your ‘wish list’.
Now, I’m going to get back to my lovely cup of Green Tea with Mint and fruid and enjoy my library books. I have got a lot of reading to do!

Hi Kathy. Great informative post. I am just learning to navigate our library system for my Kindle….always something new to learn!

We just upgraded to where our patrons can read Ebooks and get music too – there’s a lot more at the library now than books – though, they’re my favorite!
I haven’t been to the library in ages either. When I was a girl, it was one of my favourite places to go. Love your pretty teacup. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week.
Blessings,
Sandi
When I was young, I spent hours at the library – I just love it even today
I agree, I have to look at books before ordering. We’ve sure had weather for being inside. I’ve been doing some of the same things. Love your pretty teacup………..Thanks for hosting.

I just looked at the 10-day forecast for my area in Georgia – there’s two 70 degree days coming! Yahoo!
Oh that is SO interesting Kathy! Thanks so much for sharing that info.
Also – thank you much for hosting a very pretty linky party.
Have a blessed week!
I love the library, thank you for sharing and hosting the party.
I used to love the library when I was young in NY. There are no libraries here with that kind of books. Your tea setting is lovely. Thank you for hosting this week. Have a lovely week.

When I lived in Michigan I used to frequent the library all the time for home decor and gardening books. Our little library here doesn’t have a lot…but you’ve encouraged me to inquire about the services of the region. Thanks!!
Wonderful! I hope you’re able to find books through an inter-library system – it’s fantastic!
Now that I have an ereader I don’t visit the library but my hubby does and I believe we have a similar system here.
Judith
What wonderful information! I was just at my local library today and checked out a bag of books. It’s nice because ALL of the books and magazines are for 3 weeks here. I need to find more decorating books though. I think I’ll look closely at your photos and make myself a ‘little’ list! Sweet hugs!
If you need a list – I’d be happy to supply!
Il est bon de passer du temps à parcourir des livres… Ceux que vous nous montrez ont l’air partiuculièrement d’être passionnants.
J’espère cependant que la douceur du printemps arrivera très vite jusqu’à vous.
gros bisous
It looks very relaxing, Kathy. Wish I could do that but I have so much I want to do at home….Christine
Wow, I’m going to have to write down those titles and look for them at my library! We have a similar system and it’s so nice when I need to look for books for our school lessons.
Blessings,
Mrs. Sarah Coller
Homemaking Linkup going on now!
Do you Home School? We used Sonlight sometimes for our curriculum – they have a marvelous list of books.
Dear Kathy,
I love ordering my books online and picking them up when they come in. It’s fast and easy and I love it! I ordered some of Rachel Ashwell books last month. Love your pretty teacup and mint tea sounds delish.
Thanks for hosting.
hugs,
Lisa
The New Cottage Style book by Sunset is really good! you have some nice selections. i have gone through all of the ones in our library and not many new ones. Thank you for hosting and for sharing at Home Sweet Home!

Kathy: I want to thank you so much for your kind words. So many ladies have shared their heart aches with me. It is quite humbling to know that things so personal can be shared and cared for by others. When I shared it felt like I was given everyone this fine piece of china that could break so easy. Everyone just took it and covered it with prayer. I am forever grateful. I cannot tell you how important your words were to me. Sometimes we just need to hear others. Thank you and my God continue to bless you and yours. Martha
We actually have a library system similar to yours, not the’ Pines’, but ‘Timberland’. Seems to be a woodsy theme with library systems. I peruse & check out my books on-line, then pick them up at our local library. Our local library is also a wonderful place to visit, and is very user-friendly.
Your post is about some of my favorite things, books, tea time, decorating ( the books), and libraries.Thank-you.
How cool is that! Wonder at the woodsy name theme
Libraries are wonderful, peaceful places to visit and to enjoy
I LOVE going to the library- interesting post. Thx for hosting. Your cup is gorgeous. HAPPY March
Shawn
Fun post! I should use my library’s online services more often that I do. Thanks for the reminder. Tea and books — not much could be better! Happy Tea Day!
Tea and books! Is there anything more delightful? O.k. well, I do love flowers too! lol!
I love libraries. I worked in one and my daughter is becoming a degree librarian. It is so kind of you to explain the hold process!
I always *swoon* over your transferware tea cup! It is just the most lovely thing!
Here in N.C. it has been very chilly indeed! We just are not used to cold days without end. Usually we have nice warm days in between, but not this year. We all need more tea to warm up : )
Hugs,
Terri
We are ready for winter to ‘make an end’ to it – that’s how we put it, although overall it has been mild. We keep our home cool – it is so big and drafty anyhow it is hard to cool. So, we keep the heat at 60 degrees. We laugh because we have to hurry to eat dinner – it gets cold fast
.I have checked the 10-day forecast and they’re predicting a few 70 degree days soon – can’t wait!
I love working at the library – wonder that I never thought of a librarian degree – there’s a big difference!
Hi Kathy,
thats an interesting system in your library. So many nice books to look at. No wonder that you are always fit in decorating. LOL
Thank you for sharing this interesting tea time and for hosting this charming event.
Best greetings, Johanna
