Home Sweet Home
The word home conjures up several thoughts and emotions. Memories from childhood cause one to smile. Warm thoughts and feelings of being in a place where you’re welcomed and loved.
Home. We have the ability to create our homes here on earth – our little bits of heaven.
I think what’s most important is that in these homes we have the aspects of what we might think we will find in our heavenly home.
Love. Love is the foundation of a sweet home. A home filled with love is also filled with laughter, enjoyment, peace, friendship and forgiveness.
Safety. Home is a place we can go where we know we can be ourselves and be accepted. Home is a place where everyone looks out for each other.
Comfort. Home and those inside who love us brings us great comfort in knowing that in all we face in this world home is the place we can come to to and be comforted and be made comfortable.
There’s a home for the Christian that he or she has never physically been to, yet they’re homesick for. There’s a home promised to all who have accepted Christ as their Savior and He’s promised that home.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:1-2
We have such wonderful hope and comfort in knowing that God has prepared this home for us.
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” II Corinthians 5:1-5
So while we wait for that wonderful heavenly home, why don’t we make our homes here for ourselves and for our families one that will reflect this marvelous home.
“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” Isaiah 32:18
Let God be the foundation of your home and of everything you do and say.
“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” Hebrews 3:4
Let your home be a place of security and of safety for your family.
“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:25
Let your home be a place of unity. We have a way of thinking ‘us’. Let your home be the safe place where all know that we look after, love and protect one another. Form a sense of ‘us’ in your home.
“Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.” Matthew 12:25
And always and in all things – make God the center of your home and of your family.
” Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.” II Samuel 7:29
